Castlecomer

This trip to Ireland began in mid September 2017 - I'm slowly getting around to posting

We had such a nice time last year when we rode to Castlecomer, that we decided to do it again. We headed out via Milford, where hydro-electricity first provided power for streetlights in Carlow.

Then it was onto the climb up to the plateau, which afforded gorgeous views back over our shoulders.

Never one to turn down a chance to ride up to a wind turbine, I made a route change on the fly.

We stopped for lunch in Castlecomer and then added a little detour out to the former Foulksrath Hostel.  The property has been sold and is privately owned now. The new owners have been working hard to restore the castle, and according to their facebook page, they may open up as a B&B someday. In John's younger days, Foulksrath was a cycling destination for the CTC and he had many weekend rides to and from Jenkinstown. I even got to stay here on one of my first trips over. It was cool to revisit and hopefully in the future we can stay in the B&B.

Then it was back over the ridge and down into Leighlinbridge, before making our way home.
